Session Ideas
- Virtual Career Fair: Create and manage multiple sessions around a given theme or time frame
- Career Guest Speaker — Have someone talk to your students about their career, day-to-day work, and how they got where they are
- Career Preparation — A professional provides advice and guidance to help students prepare for a specific career pathway
- Real-World Connection — Have an industry expert talk about how they use a curriculum topic in their daily work
- Professional Development: Educators stay current with industry insights and learn innovative teaching strategies from industry pros
- Project Evaluation and Mentoring: Invite industry experts to observe a final presentation or consult on a student project
- Mock Interviews — Give students a real-life interview experience with someone in their desired field
- Resume and Cover Letter Review — Students receive feedback from someone in the role they want, or an HR rep
- Special Event — Arrange sessions before or after a major event, special visitor, or field trip
Tips for Requesting a Session
- Be as specific as possible — the more detail, the better
- Include questions your students have for the professional
- Share why your students are interested in this career or topic
- Attach any relevant materials that may help the professional
- Add in any details that make your class unique
- Request as far in advance as possible, and provide multiple date options if you can
Tips for an Amazing Session
Before
- Ensure students have a chance to think critically and generate questions in advance
- Have students research the career or topic before the session
- Prepare "interview questions" to be used during the Q&A
During
- Use a Likes and Dislikes Worksheet to drive engagement and keep students focused
- Have your camera on if possible; facilitate conversation as needed
After
- Use an Exit Ticket activity to help students reflect and generate follow-up questions
- Extend learning with class discussions and create another session request to address further questions
